Simon Vos, founder of VOSA, had achieved great success winning The Block Glasshouse 2014 when he decided it was time to start his own business. VOSA was created out of his desire to run a design and construction company that placed as much value on aesthetic as it did function.

Simon’s passion for creating beautifully designed, well-resolved spaces forms the basis for all of his work.


Simon approached Raine & Makin with a clear idea about what his business was to become. He was also very clear about the values that would inform what VOSA represented, but he needed help to crystallise the brand identity. Noticing diminishing quality and corner-cutting in his industry, Simon sought to create a brand that reflected his genuine desire to construct the best spaces in Australia.

Simon is dedicated to providing high quality construction and effective project management, while respecting the lifestyle his clients have or desire. This professionalism is uniquely complemented by Simon’s easy going nature, love for the ocean, and his admiration of Australia’s coastline. Our challenge was to communicate and unite these ideas through a new website, print collateral, and a strong visual identity.


We developed the V symbol as a response to VOSA’s focus on quality and tied in the inspiration Simon draws from the ocean. The symbol represents clean architectural lines and structure, as well as the sea meeting land. The solid stroke on the left represents land mass, while the thinner lines symbolise water, waves, or the ocean. To complement the brandmark, we used minimal, geometric type.

In addition to this, we created a watercolour bleed to represent the organic and natural aspects of Simon’s personality and process. With these core visual touch points resolved, we proceeded to roll out web development, company stationery, and brand guidelines.

Motivated again by the core values that drive VOSA, we designed a website that utilises a crisp and minimal design, softened by visual fluidity. Our goal was to let the content do the talking as a clear fusion of form and function.
